Caring & Sharing for the Holidays Nov/Dec 2013 - Over the holidays, the team at HSS joins together to continue assisting those less fortunate. Our offices in Tempe-AZ, Rochester-NY & Harlan-KY collected donations for local food pantries and provided gifts for those less fortunate. Among the recipients were Camp Good Days & Special Times, The Child Crisis Center, Foodlink, Christ’s Hands Food Drive and the Toy Drive for Santa Mountain. The donations included hundreds of pounds of food, dozens of toys and gifts, as well as monetary and gift card contributions.
Foodlink Backpack Program
Heartland School Solutions has proudly participated in the Foodlink BackProgram™ for the past 3 years. The BackPack Program from Foodlink provides children in need with bags of nutritious food they can discreetly take home and easily prepare on their own. Nearly 78,000 children in the 10-county service area receive free or reduced-price lunch at school. But when school is closed during weekends and holidays, many of those children go hungry. During 2012-2013, nearly 1,800 children a week in 29 school districts were served. The Rochester team sends 1 or 2 volunteers each Friday for 2 hours, from Feb through June, to help fill backpacks for the children. The Rochester team also sponsor’s food drives to collect food, canned fruits and vegetables, peanut butter, and miscellaneous nutritious items to be donated to the backpack program during the winter months.
