Career Colleges and Schools Can Now Automate and Integrate Back Office Operations and Payments Processing

New technologies help school administrators streamline operations and reduce costs

PRINCETON, NJ ― June 11, 2009 ― Administrators of career colleges and schools can now automate historically manual operations ― and integrate them with the processing of payments ― using state-of-the-art technology. The technology ― offered by Heartland Payment Systems® (NYSE: HPY) in partnership with Training Masters® ― brings operational efficiencies that save time, money and other resources.

Heartland is the nation’s fifth largest payments processor, providing card processing, payroll, check management and other payments solutions. Training Masters is a leading consulting and training company for postsecondary career schools.

The technology ― coined “Heartland Smart OpsSM powered by STARS” ― is a web-based, integrated school management system that handles financial, admissions and education management, as well as financial aid payments. It helps administrators better manage their schools ― especially the financial and reporting responsibilities that are vital to receiving grants and government funding ― with no added investment in equipment, software or IT support. Smart Ops also has a student portal feature which allows students to easily pay for tuition and other school-related expenses, and access their grades, class schedules, school event information, and security alerts, online.

Also integrated into Smart Ops are Heartland’s core payments solutions for card processing, online payments, check management and payroll ― as well as its Campus OneCard System. The OneCard is a robust and flexible campus card program that can be used for access and security; attendance tracking; financial aid and work-study funds disbursement; and more. Heartland’s OneCard and Give Something Back NetworkSM ― a nationwide network that powers the OneCard and helps institutions and nonprofit organizations capitalize on everyday purchases ― allow schools to offer convenience to students, reduce their operating expenses and even generate revenue.

“Running a school ― and staying compliant with regulations for government funding ― is extremely complex,” said Barry Welsch, director of campus payments at Heartland. “By automating and streamlining processes, administrators can manage their schools more efficiently and focus on their core missions.”
