HEARTLAND PAYMENT SYSTEMS™ CEO BOB CARR HONORED WITH 2009 BETA GAMMA SIGMA AWARD FOR ENTREPRENEURSHIP

Prestigious award recognizes business success and outstanding service to humanity

PRINCETON, NJ — May 18, 2009 — Bob Carr, chairman and chief executive officer of Heartland Payment Systems™ (NYSE: HPY), one of the nation’s largest payments processors, will be awarded the 2009 Beta Gamma Sigma Medallion Award for Entrepreneurship. Beta Sigma Gamma ― an International Honor Society ― selected Carr for his overwhelming commitment to maintaining high moral and ethical standards within the payments processing industry, as well as his contributions to charitable service. The presentation will take place at Seton Hall University in South Orange, NJ on June 25, 2009.

“Since Heartland’s founding in 1997, we have been committed to offering fair and transparent payments processing and advocating for the rights of merchants. It has always been my desire to translate our business success into community commitment, and I am truly honored to be recognized for those achievements with this award,” said Carr. Carr, along with his wife, Jill, founded the Give Something Back Foundation, a non-profit which funds academic scholarships for disadvantaged children.

Under Carr’s direction, Heartland Payment Systems has grown its workforce from 25 to 3,100 employees and its merchant locations from 2,500 to 250,000. In 2006, Carr guided the development and implementation of The Merchant Bill of Rights, a public advocacy initiative to educate business owners about fair credit and debit card processing practices. Today, The Merchant Bill of Rights is formally endorsed by 150 state trade organizations, merchants and business partners.

Carr was nominated by Karen Boroff, dean of the Stillman School of Business at Seton Hall University.
