Apple Pay Is Here—Are You Ready?

Apple Pay™ was recently released to an audience of iPhone 6 and 6 Plus owners. This mobile solution gives consumers—who enter their credit or debit cards into the Apple Passbook—the ability to quickly and easily pay with one touch.

Heartland can help you access this market by enabling you to accept contactless payments and process them in the most secure and reliable environment available.

Secure Payment Meets the Most Secure Processing

Not only is Apple Pay convenient, but it’s also safe. Apple Pay uses a unique Device Account Number instead of your actual credit or debit card number so that your information is never exposed. This Device Account Number is encrypted and stored in a dedicated chip called the Secure Element within your iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch. These numbers are never stored on Apple servers. When you use Apple Pay to make a purchase, the Device Account Number, along with a transaction-specific dynamic security code, is used to process your payment and your actual debit or credit card numbers are kept out of the mix.

What is Apple Pay?

Apple Pay gives consumers—who enter their credit or debit cards into the Apple Passbook—the ability to pay at participating retailers and restaurants.

How does Apple Pay work?

A token representing the card number is stored on a Secure Element within the iPhone 6 or 6 Plus. When the consumer is ready to pay, that token is sent by way of NFC to the reader for authorization. Apple leverages the aforementioned card brand schemes to communicate by way of NFC with the NFC reader. The NFC reader that is attached to the POS system or terminal will send the transaction to Heartland for authorization.

Why Heartland?

The founding supporter of the Merchant Bill of Rights, a public advocacy initiative that educates merchants about fair processing practices, Heartland remains steadfast and grounded in the core values that got the company to where it is today.
